It is taught in conjunction with its opposite term, "below," as well as related terms like "over," "under," "beside," and "between." In the context of coordinate geometry: If Point A is above Point B on a coordinate plane, then the y-coordinate of Point A is greater than the y-coordinate of Point B. If Point A also shares the same x-coordinate as Point B, then it is specifically directly above Point B.
