Even numbers are integers that are divisible by 2 with no remainder. An even number can always be divided into two equal groups, making it evenly divisible by 2. Even numbers always end with the digits 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8 in the ones place. Examples of even numbers include 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and even zero is considered an even number. The general form of an even number can be expressed as 2n2n2n, where nnn is any integer.

Odd numbers, on the other hand, are integers that are not evenly divisible by 2. When divided by 2, odd numbers always leave a remainder of 1. Odd numbers end with the digits 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9 in the ones place. Examples include 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. The general form of an odd number can be expressed as 2n+12n + 12n+1 or 2n−12n - 12n−1, where nnn is any integer. Between any two consecutive even numbers, there's always an odd number.

Even and odd numbers have distinct properties when used in arithmetic operations:

Addition Properties:

Even + Even = Even Odd + Odd = Even Even + Odd = Odd

Subtraction Properties:

Even - Even = Even Odd - Odd = Even Even - Odd = Odd

Multiplication Properties:

Even × Even = Even Odd × Odd = Odd Even × Odd = Even Examples of Even Numbers Example 1: Identifying Even Numbers Problem:

Identify the even numbers from the given list: 23, 8, 46, 81, -96, 73, -11, 62, 33, 74

Step-by-step solution: Step 1, recall that even numbers are divisible by 2 and always end with the digits 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8. Step 2, examine each number's ones digit to determine if it's even: 23: ends in 3 (odd) 8: ends in 8 (even) 46: ends in 6 (even) 81: ends in 1 (odd) -96: ends in 6 (even) 73: ends in 3 (odd) -11: ends in 1 (odd) 62: ends in 2 (even) 33: ends in 3 (odd) 74: ends in 4 (even) Step 3, therefore, the even numbers in the list are 8, 46, -96, 62, and 74. Example 2: Finding the Sum of Even Numbers Problem:

Find the sum of even numbers between 50 and 60.

Step-by-step solution: Step 1, identify all the even numbers between 50 and 60. Remember that even numbers end in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8. Step 2, list out these numbers: 52 54 56 58 Step 3, add these numbers together: 52 + 54 + 56 + 58 = 220 Step 4, therefore, the sum of all even numbers between 50 and 60 is 220. Example 3: Even Number Check Problem:

Is 1,324 an even number?

Step-by-step solution: Step 1, look at the last digit of the number. The last digit of 1,324 is 4. Step 2, recall that even numbers always end in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8. Step 3, since 4 is in that list, we can say that 1,324 is an even number. Step 4, therefore, the answer is yes. 1,324 is an even number.
